Care of your Jewelry
At Veronica Russek Joyas, we only use sterling silver or 14/20 gold fill.
Sterling silver is an alloy made of 92.5% silver and 7.5% copper. It is usually hallmarked .925. While there may be other alloys out there, I only use the silver and copper one, thus my pieces don't contain any nickel.
Gold Fill is when a layer of gold is heat bonded on to a base metal core. Most usually this metal is brass. Unlike gold plate, where the gold is painted on, and will most likely flake off, gold filled pieces don't lose their gold layer and behave like any 14K gold piece would, at a small fraction of the cost.
Care and cleaning
Jewelry should be the very last thing you put on, and the very first thing you take off. Cosmetics, perfumes and creams may dull it, and they might damage fragile stones and pearls.
To clean your Veronica Russek piece all you need is a polishing cloth to polish any dullness and tarnish.
Pearls might be wiped with a soft cloth (I love to cut up old Tshirts for this purpose) to remove sweat and oils from the skin.
Gold filled pieces might tarnish as well. A silver polishing cloth is all you need to bring them back to their original color and shine.
Don't use harsh cleaners, and don't dip your pieces in liquid, if they have beads. A damp cloth might be used to wipe them off, and then set them out to dry fully.
If you dip sterling silver that has been oxidized into silver cleaner, all the oxidation might come off, so just to be safe, use a polishing cloth.
